Flowers, Flowers and More Flowers

My little voice was telling me in the spring that I needed to focus on my garden.  Listen to the flowers it said.  So I must say, I'm the most "caught up" I've ever been in my garden for the end of June.  Of course there is always weeding to do but we also need the time to enjoy and reflect on and in the garden.

I started a cutting garden a couple of years ago because I really enjoyed the flowers I grew inside.  But it doesn't look so nice to take a big chunk out of the flower bed.  And I especially loved giving my flowers away, the look on someone's face when they weren't expecting flowers.  Pure joy for them and me!  So I had Gentry build me a stand so I could share my flowers more readily.  So Saturday mornings I will cut whatever is in bloom in my cutting garden and put them out for others to take.  I feel the joy as I imagine someone driving by and looking at all of the flowers.  And there on the sign it says please help yourself.  So they take their treasure home and cherish these beauties of summer for a few days.  It's so simple!

How does this tie to motivation and being healthy you ask - well for me it says those urges and hunches you've worked on all week - listen and honor them.  It would have been easy to let the cart idea fall to the wayside.  I had to ask Gentry to build it, I had to paint it and I had to fill it and let a few people know what I was doing.  So like any goal you set, whether it be to lose weight or to get healthy, ensure that you have support and you can break that goal down into smaller attainable steps, otherwise it's easy to become overwhelmed.  Remember goals need to be measurable and I think it helps to have a time frame.  Of course as time goes on you might end up reevaluating or finding another goal and that's OK too.  Follow those urges and hunches and adjust where necessary.  Hope to see you at the flower cart!
