Why do we need to worry about vitamins if we're eating well?
Here's what I've found from Real Age and other sources like SHAPE. And of course I've put my opinion in there as well!
VITAMINS
A study in the British Journal of Nutrition said that woman who regularly take a multivitamin reported feeling less hungry and having less desire to eat than those who didn't. It is something I recommend everyone start working on so here is a friendly reminder that there are added benefits. Think of it as your health insurance back up. If anybody needs more information let me know. I can email you some guidelines as to what to look for in a multi.
Lose a pound recently? Great! Then keep it off with this mighty nutrient: vitamin C.
Research shows that your body needs sufficient vitamin C to burn fat -- and burning fat is key to keeping excess pounds away. So pop your C supplement, or snack on some C-rich orange sections before your next power walk. I would encourage people to find more than just oranges for their Vitamin C - for example bell peppers are a great source of Vitamin C, better than an orange, easier to find in northern climates year round and so easy to cook with. Plus check one of my first blog entries on Salba - lots of Vitamin C in there too! I would love for people to send in their comments adding their favorite Vitamin C loaded foods! Remember that information is power so let's empower everyone to better health.
A Critical Compound
People in a study who had low blood concentrations of vitamin C and walked on a treadmill for an hour burned 25 percent less fat than people with adequate C. But a dose of C brought fat-burning levels back up to par. Why? Seems C is essential for creating carnitine, a substance that turns fat into fuel. Whatever that is I don't know - but it sounds great to me. We need all the help we can get burning fat right.
Not talking vitamins now but another reason to drink something I teach people about all the time. This drink can give you The Surgery-Free Tummy Tuck from Real Age.
Now that has to catch a few people's attention! You can help your body incinerate that stubborn spare tire by drinking this metabolism booster before your workout.
We’re not talking Red Bull here. We’re talking green tea. In a recent small study, extracts from green tea helped men burn 17 percent more fat during a 30-minute cardio workout. So who knows what it would do for women. But heh it tastes good, it's a great ritual to get into - from Tea Tasting 101 - finding a few spare minutes to brew a cup of tea is a great way to relax and get still.
Burn, Baby, Burn
It’s not clear how green tea boosts metabolism. Researchers suspect that something in the healthy brew makes fat more available as fuel, so you oxidize more of it when you exercise. Proven bonus: Green tea remains an excellent source of heart-healthy antioxidants called catechins.
It Starts with a Workout
Bottom line: Sipping green tea won’t do much for your middle if you don’t work out, too. The only way to shrink a spare tire is by dropping some pounds. And remember drinking something warm is more filling than eating something cold. So there is another good reason to drink tea all day long!
If you are interested in more health reasons to drink tea let me know. I am teaching a Tea Tasting 101 in High River in October. I'd love to see you there.
