Reflecting
On my commutes to and from work I am managing to get a lot of reflecting time in. I've come to look forward to that solitude. And 2 things I am reflecting on these days is the fact that beauty plays a big part in my life. And secondly that when I ask, the angels do appear. So let me explain and it's tough to separate the two because right now they are interrelated.
As I am using my time now to work on developing my garden retreat idea like reading a book on the place Findhorn. I recommend you check out the info on it. It's on the web and has become this great retreat centre - it was started in the late '60s. I don't want to give too much away but I've known about the book for a couple of years and of course this is the perfect time to be reading it. After my Reiki session about a month ago my Reiki Master said to me remember "you are the retreat". And since then I've noticed that every scrap of paper I put in my garden retreat file is a little piece of me. So sometimes I struggle with the division of where one ends and the other begins but doesn't that sound like the perfect "job" - it won't ever feel like work but a labor of love. Ooops that was kind of a digression that I just had to make.
Getting back to beauty - my new favorite quote is from Rumi (the next book on the reading list) and he says "Let the beauty of what you love be what you do." Hmmm. So there is that beauty word again. And beauty's meaning from the Concise Oxford dictionary is combination of qualities, as shape, proportion, colour, in human face or form, or in other objects, that delights the sight. Or combined qualities delighting the other senses, the moral sense, or the intellect. So to me Rumi has assigned us the task of taking the essence, the reason we love something and applying that to everything we do. Basically, living in the moment - anybody read Eckhart Tolle's new book?
On the other side of beauty, the side we're familiar with - appreciating beauty. Some of us don't, we skim right by it, over it or through it. But I realized when I think of my 3 favorite things that they all pay homage to beauty. Gardening - those flowers are beautiful and all from the intent of me. And then jewellery - my way of enjoying art. Jewellery is art and I would much rather be able to wear mine! And music - how many people know what beauty sounds like when they hear a favorite piece of music and feelings are welling up as that piece takes you to another place and time. Magic!!
For me the garden retreat will be a place that teaches people about beauty around them and most importantly to find and celebrate the beauty they've always had within them. How cool will that be?
Now when I talk about angels - I have had a few very specific angels come into my life at important times, the lady who gave me a place to rent in Canmore when I first left Steve. And my newest angel is the program coordinator for continuing education classes at the High River library. One of the things I am always working on in mantras, prayers and affirmations is to ask for help. I have a hard time asking for help. And I know that I will need all kinds of help to start the garden retreat. So I taught a Mandalas - Coloring for Grown Ups workshop at the library and after the course the coordinator asked if I would consider doing a one-day workshop on my favorite book ever "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron. Quite a daunting task when it's your most favorite book ever! There is a deadline for submitting the info to her board for approval then getting it into the catalog etc. I didn't have time to think and come up with all of the reasons I shouldn't do it. The biggest thing Carol said is that she would help me because she knows how great the workshop would be if it was facilitated by me! So remembering all my prayers asking for help - I'm now developing the most important course I've ever done to date. And the timing is totally divine thanks to all the help Carol has already given me. Where this ties into the beauty aspect is that the subtitle on the book is "A course in Discovering and Recovering Your Creative Self". What part of that isn't going to have to deal with beauty in some way, shape or form? Magic or what?
Well I could keep writing but I've got to get to my breakfast guests this Sunday morning. You know I sat down not having a clue what I would write about this week but within minutes it was all there. Thank you!
These quotes I will use in my upcoming workshop:
"Every artist was first an amateur." Ralph Waldo Emerson Consider yourself an artist of your life!
"That which you create in beauty and goodness and truth lives on for all time to come. Don't spend your life accumulating material objects that will only turn to dust and ashes." Dennis Waitley When we come from our heart we will always be serving our highest good.
"We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open." Jawaharlal Nehru This reminds me of living in that moment and embracing everyone of them. We are blessed.
And I would like to add some information that I think is beneficial for anybody wanting to get healthy. It's another form of fun exercise and a way of connecting to our bodies through movement and music. Wanna dance?
