What is spiritual about painting your office?
That is what a friend asked me this week when I told her I was excited about painting my office. And of course the actual act of painting the office isn't that spiritual. It's physical. So let me explain what makes it spiritual.
I realize when you spend a lot of time in one space you are affected by that space - good or bad. And when I'm home I'm usually in my office, with clients, on the computer, writing a course etc. So I spend a lot of time in this room. And I heard that little voice say that I needed to look at my surroundings, the garden and my office included. It wasn't a great space - when we moved in 5 years ago it was going to be where the computer and our files lived. Who could have foreseen where I would be led. It wasn't honoring me or my work. So I've begun the process of honoring the space - paint being the first step. I've chose a very vibrant green and I absolutely love it. It's confident, stimulating, creative, and inspiring. My inspiration comes in the form of flowers and words. So I will work hard to incorporate those things into my space. I will work even harder to declutter the space. I am working on defining my boundaries. What belongs in an office - does the ironing board? Or my work uniforms? So this is going to have a ripple effect to the rest of the house and the rest of my life. Very exciting! Feng Shui talks about getting energy moving by first clearing the clutter. I can't wait to get the energy flowing in this room!
I anticipate the positive effect it will have on the course I am developing for the spring - An Introduction to Living a Creative Life. One of my life rules is to ensure that what I talk is what I walk. So this shift to a higher consciousness (read creative living) is all part of the test run for my course. I love what I do!!
If anyone else has any ideas / stories on how their space effects their life, or how they've seen a shift when honoring a space, please let me know. Maybe I can share it in my course.

And a few more quote on play and fun as I am preparing to head off to Disneyland this week to celebrate my 40th birthday. So we'll see you all back at the blog on Monday, November 24th.
Play is as essential to the aged as it is to the young. I count that day lost when I'm not moved to tears or laughter, but even more if I have not played. George Sheehan
Unfortunately many people do not consider fun an important item on their daily agenda. For me, that was always a high priority in whatever I was doing. Chuck Yeager
